Questions

Submitted Question: "Would gathering info on a Neos user using OSiNT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_intelligence) be considered against any guidelines? The guidelines and security document only state these things regarding user info (paraphrased): - No distribution of identifying/personal info - Collection of data in Neos should only be done with the users consent and knowledge. - Acquiring public data should not occur if it breaches Neos guidelines.

These points do not seem to restrict the ability to gather (not distribute) public info about a user outside of Neos. Would doing this be allowed according to the guidelines?"

  • We're concerned we're missing a piece of this question, but broadly, yes. If you're collecting information not on Neos, not using Neos, and not distributing it within Neos, the guidelines should not impact you at all. If this information is then disseminated within Neos it could qualify as harassment by doxxing, so it must be handled carefully, but this seems outside the scope of our guidelines. Feel free to submit further questions clarifying the issue through this form, or via the ticket system at moderation.neos.com

Spex — Today at 16:03 Any updates on adding clarifications to the MTC for how world/session rules work? It's unclear to me if this work falls under the kind of work that can't be done atm.

  • As part of the recent change to adult content, we've added boards in all Neos Team worlds that explain session rules and provide some default examples of them. You are welcome to save and edit these boards, and they can be found in Neos Essentials for your own use.

Zari Tenjin — Today at 16:07 I really liked the process of discussion we went through in the thread about the recent rule issue. Are there plans to do similar community discussion/feedback gathering on maybe controversial/high impact changes to the rules if they come up in the future?

  • Absolutely. More limited versions of this process were used for other guideline updates recently, but this model is how we intend to introduce changes going forward.

Dionamus — Today at 16:10 What is the progress on the mentor applications?

  • Applicants are regularly added every 2-3 weeks. No current backlog.

rampa_3 (UTC +1, DST UTC +2) — Today at 16:24 Also maybe something should be said about working with logs, since in logs essentially everyone is natively tracked by their user IDs, and based on the guidelines, I would thus expect a guideline to be made about logs handling.

  • We'll note it for revisions on that section. Either marking that content as fine to share, or explicitly requesting logs not be shared without cause. An exception for this will certainly be submitting logs to moderation, which treats all information submitted as confidential.
