The Neos Moderation Team's Weekly office hours.

Here are the notes from 24 April 2022.

These are rough notes typed by CanadianGit, shamelessly stealing ProbablePrime's formatting. If there are errors please edit away!

Please do remember to check our Roadmaps as a lot of questions here are partially covered there. Do continue to ask them but the roadmaps are there for you to read:

Please make tickets! We love tickets!.

The next Moderation Team Office hours will be back next week!

Cyro This goes without saying, but just to re-affirm since I've encountered people who are shy to do this - people should be encouraged to submit a moderation ticket if for instance the "ask everyone for consent before bringing out adult content" rule is broken yes?

  • Yes, the Moderation Team always encourages users to resolve their issues by talking with other players, but there is no requirement - you are more than welcome to submit a ticket if you would simply prefer to not confront the host yourself. Moderation is here to help resolve these issues.

Lexevo How do the moderation team deal with content that is usually shared freely, like logix, but the creator doesn't want it shared? I think it could be difficult to know how much of a logix script might be copied or not, as the idea of it might have been made by both people. How do you deal with that?

  • As part of a the take-down request, we expect users to provide evidence confirming their ownership of an item. Sometimes this can be easy, but in more complex cases (such as logix script), it may require a conversation with the moderation team.

Hodufan Is a splash screen on session join saying you consent to adult content to continue sufficient to ascertain consent from all members in said session?

  • The session host is responsible if minors enter the session. This, alone, is unlikely to give you a high degree of certainty that your session is only occupied by users who consent and are of age.

Lexevo How much of Neos's IP (example logos, official worlds, audio etc.) are allowed to be used by others?

  • We have limited brand guidelines available on the wiki, but most IP material provided on platform are welcome to be used in creations on the platform.

Hodufan Even then, people can lie. If someone lies about being over 18 and it is later discovered they are underage, will the hosts be punished, or rather only be punished if they discover this and continue allowing them? Requiring ID pics is extremely invasive and can still be faked

  • Hosts will be punished appropriate to the violation. If an incident is reported where a minor convincingly deceived a host and enter a session, the host is unlikely to receive significant account restrictions but will get a warning or reminder. If the host knew, and allowed the minor to stay, far stricter account restrictions will be applied.

Lexevo Have there been any instances of bot accounts, or user botting inside of Neos, which the moderation team had to deal with? How difficult was it to resolve if there was?

  • Relatively few issues with bots have occured on platform so far.

sls im aware people are using external tools such as Renderdoc to view user's assets even if they dont have permissions in the world. is this allowed?

  • With permission from the user, yes. Digging into another user's avatar, world, or assets without their permission could constitute harassment. Moderation recommends you seek permission first, and comply if you are requested to stop.

Earthmark renderdoc is inspecting content that was moved onto their machine though, it's the same as if they opened up their cache folder and poked around, is that not allowed then?

  • See above.

Lexevo What should I do if I've reported something on the moderation site, but there has been no acknowledgement of it being received?

  • Moderation tries to get back within 24 hours, if you have not received a reply within a week, something may have gone wrong - please submit another ticket.
  • Exploit reports were previously an exception to this. In the past, we did not send acknowledgments until support began working on the issue, but now you should receive some acknowledgment of the report being received within 24 hours.

Lexevo Is there also acknowledgements on other sites/forms? Like the feeedback form? I know I'm being pushy, but I just want to make sure that something was received in the feedback form.

  • The feedback form does not provide acknowledgments, but we do plan on a monthly review of the feedback we've received in the future.
