==New World Dialog==

This lets you start a brand new empty world in Neos that you can build in or import assets into. Think of it as a "New Document", but for VR worlds.

If you're going experiment with creating or importing things in Neos, it may be a good idea to do this in a new, empty world instead of cluttering up your home world.

You have several templates to choose from to initialize the world, but you can remove and change any aspect of them.

If you're looking to explore already built worlds or host a social event, check the Content Hub instead.

World Templates:

  • SpaceWorld: this world is similar to your home world, with a round platform and glowing cubes rotating through space.
  • Basic Empty: this is the most empty world template, recommended for mobile use or if you're just feeling minimal.
  • GridSpace: the ground is a grid, stretching infinitely in every direction. The sky is solid black. Grid and sky color are both configurable.
  • Microworld: a grid on the ground, which fades into fog the same color as the sky. Bubbles of all sizes float through the air.
  • Testing Scaling: a world designed to test player scaling.
  • ScratchSpace: this world has all sorts of tool tips, materials, particles, LogiX examples, and so on.
  • ScratchSpace (mobile): a version of ScratchSpace optimized for mobile use.
  • Physical Locomotion Test: a world with platforms spread out at all different heights and positions, ideal for running, jumping, and climbing.

Session Settings:

World Name: the name of your world, this is how your world will be described to other users (if it's public) and the name it will be saved as.

Mobile Friendly: if selected, this world is optimized for mobile use (Oculus Go, Oculus Quest, etc.) Currently this changes the shaders to ones that are more friendly to mobile GPUs; in the future it may have other effects such as adjusting the default level of detail for imported assets.

Who Can Join?

  • Nobody / Invited Users: creates a world that no one can join, unless you specfically invite them.
  • LAN Users: anyone on your local network can join, but no one from the Internet can (unless invited). Useful for LAN parties, but also running a separate instance of Neos to act as a server, or a separate instance to use as a camera for recording video.
  • Friends: friends can join your world at any time without being invited.
  • Registered users: any registered users can join your world without being invited.
  • Anyone: anyone can join.

Port: the port that Neos listens for connections on. It is normally acceptable to leave this on "Auto" and let the OS assign a free port to Neos. Note that firewall and NAT traversal is all handled automatically, so you don't need to forward any ports to Neos to act as a host.
